Opportunity

The Squaxin Island Tribe was considering a Tribal wide strategic planning process. The Tribal planning department understood that good planning is critical to its success. Because of this, the Tribe contracted with The Athena Group to conduct a one-day strategic planning and thinking training for its Tribal planning department.

Athena's Role

The Athena Partner Paul Horton developed and delivered a Strategic Planning & Thinking Training for Tribal planners, which included:

  • Introducing a framework for thinking strategically about planning in general offered insights into some of the key pitfalls to good planning and plan implementation
  • Providing an overview of a handful of key strategic planning models and their attributes
  • Providing opportunities to consider current Tribal planning needs and challenges within the context of some or all of these models

The Results

The Tribal planning department received a well-organized training module that included an umbrella framework for thinking and planning strategically, insights into some of the key pitfalls to good planning and plan implementation, an overview of some of the most effective strategic planning models and their attributes, and recommendations on opportunities to consider current Tribal planning needs and challenges within the context of some or all of these models.
